A complete atmospheric and visual overhaul of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, rebuilt to feel cohesive, modern, and true to its vision.
Environments redesigned for depth, scale, and atmosphere. Grass and terrain textures are biome-specific, with extended draw distances. Foliage reused and enhanced to match the game’s original tone.
Human characters upgraded to high-poly models from the series. Outfits weathered and recolored for a grounded, lived-in appearance. Classic designs like the novice jacket and bandit tracksuits have been faithfully reimagined.
Audio overhauled for immersion with layered ambiance, guitar and radio tracks, unique object sounds, and full EAX support. NPCs and mutants feature footstep sounds for spatial awareness. Created in collaboration with award-winning sound designer Michael Tornabene.
NPCs now choose weapons smartly, heal allies, throw grenades, use melee, react post-combat, clean weapons, loot, and more, enhancing both realism and challenge.
High-quality artwork placed contextually to add authenticity and visual interest.
New rain, skyboxes, and celestial effects added, featuring painterly sunsets and layered rain audio with surface detail. Night sky redesigned with a striking star field for depth, contrast, and atmosphere.
Modern DX11 shader system improves lighting, atmosphere, and visual effects. Tuned to fit the mod’s color and tone.
Textures color-matched for visual harmony, with real-world details like authentic letters, natural rust, finished interiors, and historically accurate vehicle paint. HDR-balanced for modern displays.
Includes core updates and stability improvements from the Zone Reclamation Project. Fixes cover quest logic, dialog, and underlying game mechanics, restoring intended behavior while preserving compatibility with modern content.
Zone creatures rebuilt to amplify scale, aggression, and primal fear. Enlarged silhouettes, redesigned animations, and new sound profiles heighten threat perception and create more intense encounters.
Props and interiors fully retouched. Objects show visible wear, baked-in shadows, and environmental storytelling. TVs emit a soft CRT glow. Key spaces feel occupied, aged, and authentic.
Supports 16:9 and 21:9. UI cleaned and realigned. Optional large fonts for 4K. Redesigned PDA, HUD, and menus offer a modern, minimal look.
Multi-language support built-in, with in-world signs enhanced using clear, intuitive pictograms for universal readability.
Integrated OWR3 weapon pack with retextured models and full 16:9 and 21:9 support. Night and thermal vision available on select scopes.
Cut mutants brought back with new visuals and effects. Subspecies show unique behavior, enriching the ecosystem. For example, instead of a single restored cat, there are now eight unique variants.
Optional NPC relationships offer healing, secrets, and rewards. Adds emotional depth to survival.
This video showcases some of the NPC abilities added by the mod, features not present in the original game, such as using underbarrel grenade launchers, throwing grenades, self-healing, and various new combat and death animations.
What is this?
A vanilla+ mod with no real caveats, designed to give you a better experience when playing the game for the first time. It fixes many issues and looks modern.
Does it work with Enhanced Edition?
This mod is for the 2007 version of Shadow of Chernobyl. It retains many elements of the original creators' vision and PC specific mechanics, for example, the ability to charge a grenade throw using right-click.
Does it change the game?
Yes, in a non-intrusive, lore-friendly way, similar to the ZRP mod it’s based on. For example, you can now repair weapons (a feature from the later games but not in SoC), and some cut content has been restored so you can experience more of what was originally planned.
I've heard it makes the game easy?
No. Version 1.5 makes the game harder, in line with other STALKER mods. NPCs are smarter, have better vision, and react faster. Weapons are slightly more accurate, so your bullets connect more often, but it goes both ways. Mutants are a real threat. Items are scarce. Claims that the mod is too easy are outdated or simply false.
Where is the content coming from?
The mod combines original work, community contributions, and select assets from across the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. All sources are documented, and prominent authors are honored through in-game props as easter eggs.
